Marshals and Bailiffs

Bailiffs, marshals and assistant marshals of the Court are appointed by the Governor General acting in accordance with the advice of the Public Service Commission. Section 70 of the Supreme Court Act.

A bailiff, marshal or assistant marshal has, in the exercise of his duties and functions, all the powers and privileges of a peace officer. Section 71 of the Supreme Court Act.

The Commissioner of Police is the Provost Marshal of the Court (Section 72 of the Supreme Court Act). Bailiffs are also appointed and serve as Deputy Provost Marshals. Marshals serve as Court Security Officers.
